The Military Recreation Area (MRA) is available to Active Duty, Guard, Reservist, retired, 100% disabled veterans, DoD civilian employees and Avon Park Correctional Institute (APCI) employees.  This area is generally available seven days a week but may have closures depending on military mission.
The MRA consists of over 2,000 acres for hunting and has one primitive campground.  All users of the MRA must obtain a permit and safety briefing through the Outdoor Recreation office prior to entering.  A state certified hunters education certificate is required for anyone wishing to hunt the MRA.
Below is the recreational schedule.  This schedule covers a one week period and is updated each Wednesday, it is important to note any closures or Arfield Lockdown periods.  During an Airfield lock-down all MRA units are closed with the exception of the Ballfield and 1200 acres.  Airfield lock-downs require Austin Hammock campground to be evacuated.  Camping equipment may be left in camp provided fires are out and equipment stored.

APCI utilizes their weapons firing range on most Tuesdays, this limits access to and around building 600, check kiosk for time schedules and plan accordingly.
If for some reason you are unable to sign out of a MRA area due to APCI weapons firing or limited access to building 600 you may sign out via the following email address:
recreation@avonparkafr.net
Office hours are not always available during open MRA access hours, thus if you need to purchase a permit or guest permit check our office hours prior to planning your trip.  Permits may also be purchased in advance.  Game harvested on the MRA must be checked in at the Outdoor Recreation office, if the office is closed there are harvest forms available at the sign in station.  All permit holders must sign in/out of each unit at the sign in station located at building 600 or 1200 acres.
